Who knew there were so many color combinations?
Lures come in many, many different color combinations. Some look life-like, while others have bright polka dots and tiger stripes. Lucky for us anglers, there is some science that goes into choosing what colors lures are. Fish see much differently than we do. Some fish can see UV light, which goes deeper into water. As a result, some Lures are made to copy UV patterns of prey and catch the attention of fish; if they do not, you can use the dyes included in some scents. Soft plastics can easily be used with dyes to change the color of lures or add bright portions. The Muddiness of water can greatly impact the appearance of lures. Many lures have bright colors in order to be seen by fish in murky water. On a simpler note, a large array of available lure colors is largely due to the pray of fish becoming different colors based on the season and temperature of the water. Lures also use bright red to make the lures appear as if they are injured prey and an easier snack for the fish.
